ABOUT LA AURORA®

The first operation that defines cigar quality

Before a single cigar is rolled, every leaf goes through destemming: removing the central midrib that runs down the leaf. On the wrapper the whole midrib is taken out and the leaf opens into two clean halves. On the filler, only the thick third nearest the stalk is removed, leaving the leaf in that distinctive frog-legs shape.

It is millimetre work. A torn leaf is a lost wrapper; a badly cut stem ruins draw and burn. That is why LA AURORA® builds destemmers specifically for premium cigars: precision before volume, with the robustness and repeatability a real factory demands.

Measured-output note: the 30 pcs/min (1,800 pcs/h) is a measured equipment value; during testing the operator was not an experienced industry worker (a general operator, without industry-specific professional training).

THE RANGE

Two destemmers, two different jobs

They share only the outer housing — their internal construction is completely different: two dedicated machines, one for each job. The Wrapper Leaf Destemmer (Model W) works the wrapper leaf only and extracts the full midrib; the Frog-Leg Destemmer (Model FL) works the frog-leg leaf only, cutting the basal third of the midrib.

MODEL W · WRAPPER LEAF DESTEMMER

Wrapper Leaf Destemmer — where every millimetre counts

The wrapper is the face of the cigar. Any tear, bruise or stem remnant shows instantly on the finished product. Model W removes the whole midrib while guiding the leaf under constant servo tension, so the leaf opens into two intact, usable halves.

MODEL FL · FROG-LEG DESTEMMER

Frog-Leg Destemmer — the classic filler cut

Filler does not need a whole leaf: it needs structure and flavour. Tradition calls for removing only the thick third of the midrib, next to the stalk — the leaf is left looking like a pair of “frog legs”. Model FL reproduces that cut with a targeted destemming structure, leaf after leaf, without depending on the operator's hand.

TECHNOLOGY & BUILD

Servo, stainless and CE marked

Under a workshop-blue shell sits a drive chain that is simple to maintain and precise to control: a 1500 W AC servo motor turns the rollers at constant torque while the leaf travels over stainless-steel guides without aggressive rubbing.

The HMI panel shows status and the leaf counter (for example 750 / 0 / 30 on screen), so the supervisor knows exactly how many leaves a batch has processed. Every machine ships CE marked with an emergency stop and safety guarding.

Built to last. Robust structure, standard components and available spare parts: the machine stays in production for years, not seasons.

FACTORY QUESTIONS

The 10 questions cigar factories ask us most

Collected from cigar factories worldwide, answered with the machine's data — not with promises.

The stem comes out clean: on the wrapper the whole midrib is removed and the leaf opens into two symmetrical halves; on the frog-leg exactly the basal third next to the stalk is removed, leaving the rest of the filler leaf intact. Constant servo tension stops the roller from “pulling” the leaf and tearing tissue:

1500 W AC servoconstant tensiontargeted basal-third cut2 clean wrapper halves

That is exactly why this machine exists. Against manual destemming — fast but uneven — the destemmer controls speed continuously and the servo torque, so the leaf never takes a sudden yank. Rollers and contact guides are stainless steel with no aggressive teeth. The result: a wrapper surface free of tears and friction marks.

stepless speedconstant servo torquestainless steel

Declared and verified throughput: 45 leaves/min at full load30 leaves/min in real conditions. A single machine already replaces several manual destemming stations, with consistent quality. For higher volumes, units run in parallel with no redesign.

For artisan production one unit is enough; for industrial output we size the number of machines to your leaves/day. Tell us your case in the Community section.

Very contained draw, thanks to the servo instead of pneumatic or hydraulic systems:

Model W: 0.9 kWh/hModel FL: 0.45 kWh/h1500 W AC servo

At a reference industrial electricity price, the energy cost per hour is a few cents — far below running several manual destemmers or a pneumatic unit. Add the saving on skilled labour and the payback is measured in months, not years.

No. The HMI panel shows status and the digital leaf counter; the operator simply loads leaves and controls speed. On Model FL, a three-speed quick adjust changes regime without tools. Basic training takes one day.

The deeper win: it reduces dependence on expert stemmers — an increasingly scarce and costly resource in the cigar industry — in favour of operators the machine guides.

HMI paneldigital counter3-speed adjust

Yes. Stepless variable speed covers everything from thin wrapper leaves to thicker filler leaves; Model FL adds three quick-adjust speeds by variety and the cut depth is adjustable. The machine adapts to the leaf, not the other way round.

Every surface in contact with the leaf is stainless steel, with an open design for quick cleaning between batches. No lubricants touch the product and no material adds odour or taste. It is a machine built for the hygiene discipline of a premium cigar factory.

Consistency is the whole point of a machine. By holding speed and torque constant, every leaf receives exactly the same treatment — something impossible to guarantee by hand. The digital counter lets you close batch-level control for quality and traceability.
